BioImpedance is the technology that evolved from Doctor Reinhold Voll's research into
acupuncture points. The word bio- comes from Greek and means life, impedance means to obstruct the progress of something, so together the two refer to the electrical testing of the body's energy fields and the detection of any thing affecting them. Dr Voll was based in Germany and, from the 1950's onwards, was determined to achieve scientific validation for the use of meridian lines in restoring health. The term ' meridian lines ' comes from acupuncture and refers to the routes of different energy fields in the human body. Each field relates to a specific organ, gland or other physiological aspect.

on a patient |
Voll eventually achieved validation by utlising a machine that sent an extremely low voltage circuit through the patient's body and then taking measurement readings on acupuncture points with a probe. This system eventually became know as ElectroAcupuncture of Voll. Since then other names have evolved for it but all fall under the collective categorisation of BioImpedance. Voll demonstrated that if the resistance measured at the acupoint was 100 Ohms it was indicative of good functioning health. He devised a scale and assigned 100 Ohms resistance the arbitrary number of 50. If there was increased resistance to the current flow it was below 50 on his scale and an indication that the body area was either under-functioning or deteriorating. If the current flowed more freely it was asssigned scaling above 50 and was indicative of inflammation or hyper-functioning. |
By introducing different products into the circuit and measuring how close ( or not ) they brought the readings to 50, Voll could determine which treatments would suit the patient. Conversely he could also determine which items would cause allergies to the patient by also introducing them into the circuit. Since then various company have continued to devise software and machines to refine and expand Voll's brilliant discoveries.Today BioImpedance screening principles can be applied to a whole range of medical procedures, including organ malfunction, bodymass analysis and inflammatory conditions. From Voll's early beginnings BioImpedance is now moving the field of medicine into new areas of accuracy and detection.
